CCPD Arrest 36-year-old Man For Attempted Murder; Suspect Allegedly Forced Victim Into Choke Hold Webster/CCPD Crescent City Police arrested a 36-year-old man who had allegedly forced his way into the victim s bedroom Wednesday afternoon and had them in a choke hold. From a CCPD Facebook post: On 5-5-2021 at about 1350 hours, Officers from the Crescent City Police Department responded to an address in the 500 Block of Pacific Avenue for a report of a physical altercation in progress. Upon arrival at the residence the involved parties had separated and CCPD Officers began an investigation into the reason behind the altercation. During the course of the investigation it was determined that Nicholas Webster (age 36) had forced his way into a bedroom that the victim was inside of. Webster and the victim were both residents of the same apartment.

Suspect arrested in murder case

Law enforcement officers have arrested a 33 year-old man, Neil Hiller, suspected of shooting and killing 22 year-old Joseph Deford during the early hours of Thursday morning. According to a Tuesday release by the Del Norte County Sheriff, Hiller was arrested Monday in connection with Deford s homicide.  The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office said they received a call at 1:14 a.m. Thursday; the caller reported a man lying on the ground near the 200 block of Harding Ave. An officer arrived on scene and found Deford unresponsive. The officer attempted CPR and administered naloxone, which is typically used in opioid overdoses. However, Deford could not be revived and was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital, where a small caliber bullet was found in his back, according to police.

DNSO Seeks Information on Suspected Homicide On Harding Avenue Sheriff s deputes are seeking information about a 22-year-old man was found unresponsive and with what appeared to be a small-caliber gunshot wound to his back early this morning. Joseph Deford was found unresponsive near the 200 block of Harding Avenue in the Crescent City area when Del Norte County Sheriff s Deputies arrived at about 1:20 a.m. Thursday. Despite CPR and the administration of Naloxone, Deford was unable to be revived and was transported to Sutter Coast Hospital, whose staff found the gunshot wound, according to a Facebook post. Two Del Norte County residents died of COVID-19 at Sutter Coast Hospital this weekend, the Public Health Branch reported Monday. Including the latest deaths, a total of seven people have died in Del Norte County as a result of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, according to the Public Health Branch. Both patients were in their 70s and had underlying health conditions. “We at Public Health would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of these residents,” Public Health Branch statement read.
