(ABC 6 News) The owner of The Interchange, a business in Albert Lea, spoke at a rally today at Fountain Lake Park. The rally was scheduled before the owner was arrested for defying the Governor s COVID-19 restrictions. Lisa Hansen, the owner of The Interchange, has since posted bail.
Several state officials joined her at the rally. The event is called Stand for Liberty. Organizers and supporters say they are demanding change. They also say that small businesses shoudl be able to make their own decisions about how they operate. They also believe that the community is upset about lockdowns.

ALBERT LEA, Minn. – A fugitive southern Minnesota restaurant owner has been arrested in North Iowa.
Melissa “Lisa” Hanson, owner of The Interchange Wine & Coffee Bistro in Albert Lea was wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to appear for a court hearing. She’s facing criminal charges in Freeborn County and a civil lawsuit from the State of Minnesota for allegedly opening up her business in violation of Governor Walz’ coronavirus restrictions.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office says it has been working with the Albert Lea Police Department to monitor an Airbnb location in Clear Lake, Iowa. The Sheriff’s Office says Hanson was arrested Thursday by Clear Lake police after being seen leaving the Airbnb.

ALBERT LEA, Minn. - A trial is scheduled for a man accused of leading law enforcement on a chase.
Brandon Stanley Johnson, 38 of Albert Lea, is charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, felony theft, and first-degree criminal damage to property.
The Freeborn County Sheriff s Office says a deputy attempted to stop Johnson on January 12 after seeing him driving with no lights on at 2:24 am near St. Peter Avenue and Eberhardt Street. Johnson is accused of speeding away and driving through a barbed wire fence before getting stuck in the snow on Neal Street.

(ABC 6 NEWS) - Fewer drivers have been on the roads during the pandemic and are more tempted to speed, resulting in more crashes.
Freeborn County is seeing serious traffic crashes and fatalities on the rise. You have less vehicle traffic, less miles traveled, but you have an increase in the number of crashes and they should not be adding up. With less people out, you should have less crashes, Lt. Jeffrey Strom of Albert Lea Police Department said.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the state saw a 100% increase from 2019 to 2020 in the number of citations written to those speeding over 100 mph.
