Council bring in army to help with surge testing in Blackburn s coronavirus hotspots As rates of Coronavirus continue to rise in Blackburn with Darwen, surge testing will move into a new phase of door-knocking in certain areas, with added support from army staff. This means that from Friday (today), staff from Blackburn with Darwen Council’s engagement teams will be calling at people’s homes in areas that have higher rates of the coronavirus variant of concern now known as VOC-21APR-02. Staff will deliver information about testing and PCR test kits, returning later to collect completed tests. This increased testing will happen in the Shear Brow area of Blackburn from today.
New asymptomatic Covid test centre to open at the Forge for East End residents A NEW asymptomatic Covid testing centre is to open for residents in the East End. People who live in Barrowfield, Parkhead and Tollcross are encouraged to go to the Forge Shopping Centre from Sunday, April 3 to get tested for the virus if they are not showing symptoms. The centres have been targeted in areas across the city where case rates remain high despite lockdown measures. Car park D at the East End mall will be turned into a test centre, manned by Scottish Ambulance Service workers and will be able to carry out 400 PCR tests a day. Appointments will be available seven days a week between 10am and 5pm. They can be booked here.
