A disgrace : Ministers under fire for withholding £19m of Covid support for Scots taxi drivers MINISTERS are under fire for withholding taxi support cash as drivers face a postcode lottery of support during the pandemic. Unite Scotland is furious after it was told that the an underspend of £19m on the vital fund has been reallocated - despite an original mix up over who is eligible. It is estimated around 25,333 eligible drivers out of an estimated 38,000 drivers across Scotland applied for the £1,500 grant. It comes after the launch of the fund at the start of the year was branded farcical because it emerged that drivers on universal credit would not be able to apply.

More than three million people in the UK have not qualified for any of the business support offered by Chancellor Rishi Sunak during the pandemic.
There are three main groups of people who have been excluded. Firstly, of the 1.6 million self-employed people missing out on the Self Employment Income Support Scheme, roughly two thirds earn less than half their income from self-employment in the tax years before the pandemic. As a result, they do not qualify for help. Those who became self-employed in the 2019-20 tax year also miss out.
The government has created many coronavirus (COVID-19) response measures to help businesses. Some of these were recently extended in the 2021 Budget, delivered by the chancellor in March. You should view those blogs in the first instance because they detail additional coronavirus support measures not discussed here because they have no time limits, such as loans and rates relief. However, it can be difficult to keep track of the numerous coronavirus schemes that do have dates you must meet. You need to know when you should take action. To help you, in this article we provide an up-to-date timeline, in order of dates occurring soonest - but going all the way through to 2030. We will continue to update it in the future if and when new coronavirus relief measures are announced.
