The jury told the Cuyahoga County court Monday that the trial evidence they were given to use during deliberations included a motion discussing whether Tevin Biles-Thomas, who is accused of shooting three people at a New Year’s Eve party, had acted in self-defense. Judge Joan Synenberg had rejected that motion in a ruling that should have kept the self-defense argument away from the jury. But the documents somehow ended up in their paperwork pile and all 12 jurors admitted that the briefs influenced their opinion of the defendant, local news outlet Cleveland.com reported.
