Chill thieves make off with hotel air conditioners: Independence Police Blotter

Theft: West Creek Road
Representatives from the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel reported the theft of two air conditioning units at 9:43 a.m. Jan. 17.
The units had been placed in the outdoor pool area behind the building while awaiting repairs. The units were found missing with the two plastic covers left behind.
There were no witnesses to the theft or any suspects at the time of the report.

Police responded to a call about an unwanted guest at the DoubleTree Hotel at 10:43 a.m. Jan. 15 and found that the suspect had outstanding warrants out of the Strongsville Police Department and the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office.

In and out of consciousness, the victim, 24, was quickly transferred from Ahuja Medical Center to the main campus of University Hospitals, where he remained in the surgical intensive care unit on Jan. 29, with no condition report being released.

Detectives and Ohio Bureau of Investigation (BCI) agents continued to work the case of a Jan. 23 shooting that left one man still in the hospital with serious injuries six days later.
The victim, 24, was taken initially to Ahuja Medical Center by friends after the suspect showed up at the Extended Stay North around 1:40 a.m., reportedly broke or shot his way through the main front doors, then started firing on the third floor of the hotel.
The family of Desmond Franklin, who was shot and killed by an off-duty Cleveland police officer last April, is again pushing for the officer to be charged.

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - East Cleveland Police released details of the SWAT standoff that went on for nearly 15 hours after a man shot a manager with a rifle before barricading himself in a room at a Euclid Avenue motel on Thursday.
Chief Scott Gardner said the standoff happened around 1:45 p.m. at Nobel Motel when the manager called officers after he was threatened by a tenant he was trying to evict.

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A failed traffic stop in East Cleveland Sunday night turned into a pursuit that ended with the car crashing through an electric pole and a passenger set to be taken to Cuyahoga County Jail.
Just before 8 p.m. Sunday, East Cleveland police attempted to stop a red Pontiac Grand Am that was driving recklessly with no headlights and fake plates near Euclid Avenue and Lee Boulevard.
