The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, will, on Thursday, appear before the House of Representatives to give an account of the apex bank’s financial operations of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), between 2014 and 2019.
Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, Hon Oluwole Oke, who confirmed this in Abuja, during a media chat with Parliamentary Correspondents, explained that the Committee has the power to direct the Auditor-General of the Federation (oAuGF), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to take certain steps for any MDAs over any wrongdoing.
A statement issued, on Thursday, by Comrade Igbotako Nowinta, Executive Director of the group, maintained that the clerk is a man of impeccable character with an unblemished record of service, and wondered why the NGO is accusing him of abetting espionage as well as influencing the award of ICT contract in the National Assembly to a company in which he has an interest.
According to Comrade Nowinta: “One Ijewa Obioma, whose true identity is yet to be established, accused the clerk of ‘hijacking’ the contract from Nanocom International Limited and Navadee Integrated Nigeria Limited.”
Comrade Nowinta described the allegation contained in the petition as spurious and cheap blackmail that has no substance.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has arraigned a former Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Dr. Theresa Taiwo Akande, for allegedly receiving bribes from contractors handling projects in the school.
The Commission also docked a former Bursar of the school, Mr. Onaolapo Elijah Aderemi, alongside Dr. Akande, over his complicity in the alleged fraud.
The ex-Rector and Bursar were charged on a 9-count charge, before Justice A. L. Ogunmoye, of the Ekiti State High Court, sitting in Ado-Ekiti, for alleged gratification and other offences while serving as public officials at the polytechnic.
His tenure is expected to end on March 28, 2021, but reliable sources said the director is lobbying for a second term in order to cover up the crimes and scandals he perpetrated while in office.
ICPC arraigns ex-rector, bursar for receiving kickbacks from contractor
The anti-corruption agency says the two former officials of the school received kickback from contractors handling the construction and furnishing of the lecture theatre and other projects.
The
Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, for fraud and receiving bribes from contractors of the school.
Theresa Akande, a former rector of the institution, and Onaolapo Aderemi, a former bursar, were arraigned before a judge of the Ekiti State High Court, A. L. Ogunmoye.
According to an ICPC statement, the prosecution filed nine counts against the defendants, three of which were directed against the former rector.
