The vice-chancellor of Wits University, Zeblon Vilakazi, will on Thursday brief media about student grievances, chief among them being the financial exclusion of underprivileged students.
Funding in higher education institutions is again a contentious issue in the country after some students at Wits took to the streets urging the government to assist underprivileged students who are still awaiting assistance.
There were violent confrontations between students and the police during Wednesday s demonstrations in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, during which the police allegedly fired rubber bullets, resulting in the death of civilian Mthokozisi Ntumba.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating.

She said the killing of a bystander was unacceptable.
She wants the investigation into the incident to be completed speedily.
Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police Tina Joemat-Pettersson has condemned the unwarranted excessive violence by the police that led to the death of Mthokozisi Ntumba in Johannesburg.
Ntumba, a 35-year-old father of four, died on Wednesday after he was shot - allegedly by police - after leaving a clinic in Braamfontein where Wits students were protesting over the non-registration of students who owed the university money.
It is unclear whether he was shot with a rubber bullet or live ammunition.

CAPE TOWN - Cabinet said it was deeply saddened by the death of a man who was shot during a protest by Wits University students on Wednesday.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is probing the circumstances of the killing of Mthokozisi Ntumba and visited his home on Thursday morning, along with Police Minister Bheki Cele.
