Health department closing convenience centers early due to weather concerns

WBBJ TV February 12, 2021 JACKSON, Tenn. The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department has confirmed convenience centers in Madison County will be closing early this weekend. The health department says all convenience centers will be closing at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13 and Sunday, Feb. 14 due to the threat of winter weather. Environmental Health Program Director Candy Overstreet says the closure is for the safety of attendants at those facilities. Regular hours are currently expected to resume on Monday, Feb. 15. Hours to change February 1 for Solid waste convenience centers

WBBJ TV January 31, 2021 JACKSON, Tenn. –According to a press release, Madison Co. Solid waste convenience centers will have extended hours beginning Monday, February 1. Per the release, the solid waste convenience centers will now stay open one hour later, remaining open until 6:00 P.M. during the months of February through October. “We do this during the time change for the safety of citizens and attendants,” Environmental Health Program Director, Candy Overstreet said in the release. Secret Canada-U.S. Plastic Waste Trade Deal Revealed   SEATTLE, Washington, December 18, 2020 (ENS) – Environmental groups are calling a secret agreement on plastic wastes signed between Canada and the United States “illegal, unacceptable and dangerous.” In a letter to Canadian Environment Minister Jonathan Wilkinson earlier this month, Canadian, U.S. and international environmental organizations called for the secret agreement to be made public. They expressed their concerns that the agreement violates the new Basel Convention amendments on plastic wastes, which becomes international law on January 1, 2021. The Canadian government has claimed that it supports these amendments and promised to ratify them, but it has not yet done so.
