Richmond Common Council approves students climate change resolution RICHMOND, Ind. Mary Jetmore grew to love nature during Cope Environmental Center visits. On Monday, the Richmond High School freshman and other Youth Climate Action Team members supported a climate resolution before Richmond Common Council. That resolution eventually passed 7-2. “That instilled a lot of importance of nature into me, and then as I’ve grown older and seen the negative impact of climate change, it really hit me hard, said Jetmore, who is a member of the RHS Green Club, which was started by Hannah Jensen-Sizelove, another Youth Climate Action Team member. I want everyone to be able to experience all the amazing things I’ve seen as a child. So climate change is really important to me.”

Meet Shreya Ramachandran, Water Hero and Advocate

Water insecurity is an increasingly relevant issue for many people around the world and here in the U.S. as a result of our changing climate. Inspired by both droughts in California and water access in India, Shreya Ramachandran has made it her mission to tackle these problems through the use of greywater. In addition to conducting her own research, she has created her own nonprofit, The Grey Water Project, to educate and provide resources to diverse audiences on water recycling at home and in the workplace.

TAPS will remain closed until further notice

When the AMS hired its Senior Management team for the 2021-22 year, one service was missing from the list of new hires: The AMS Pubs Service (TAPS). “TAPS will remain closed until further notice,” Alex Samoyloff, AMS vice-president (operations), wrote in a statement to The Journal. TAPS, which operates the Queen’s Pub and the Underground, was closed ahead of the 2020-21 year because of COVID-19 public health guidelines and University restrictions which prevented the John Deustch University Centre (JDUC) from opening to the public. TAPS is housed inside the JDUC. “TAPS reopening is contingent on COVID-19 safety protocols and the ability to break even. Likely, TAPS will remain closed until the new JDUC building is complete as we have not been given access to a suitable interim pub space during the renovation,” Samoyloff added.
