The Day - Sailboats abandoned by Bluff Point pique people s curiosity - News from southeastern Connecticut

Groton Two sailboats that were blown ashore on a beach at Bluff Point State Park and Coastal Reserve during a storm last October remain abandoned months later. The vessels, named Waypoint and Motivation, on the sandy shore have piqued the interest of passersby, such as Stephanie Belser, who walks the Bluff Point trails every two or three days. Belser said she first noticed the boats, located pretty far down what is officially called Bushy Point Beach, a day or two after a nor easter in October. She called the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to report them and was told the agency had received a lot of calls about the vessels.

Outdoornews April 1, 2021 (Westchester County) On March 11, ECOs Tompkins, Thibodeau, and Franz conducted a plainclothes fishing detail focused on anglers taking out-of-season striped bass. The officers patrolled George’s Island Park in the town of Cortlandt and Croton Landing Park in the village of Croton-on-Hudson. During the detail, the ECOs observed several anglers taking and keeping out-of-season fish. The ECOs issued 10 citations for violations including possessing out-of-season fish and fishing without a valid license. The officers seized 42 striped bass from violators and recovered 38 striped bass from large black garbage bags concealed in a nearby wooded area. Several fish were released back into the Hudson River to survive another day and the rest of the fish were donated to a local Wolf Conservation Center.

Anglers stuck on floating sheet of ice, snowmobiler hits power pole: DEC Forest Ranger rescues Updated Mar 16, 2021; State Forest Rangers came to the rescue recently of two ice fishermen caught on a floating ice sheet on Lake Champlain and a snowmobiler who ran into a power pole. Those two incidents and others involving state Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers took place between March 14. All information below was supplied by the DEC. Town of Plattsburgh, Clinton County Wilderness Rescue: “On March 1 at 3 p.m., Forest Ranger assistance was requested by two DEC Environmental Conservation Police Officers and the Cumberland Head Fire Department for two anglers stranded on a floating ice sheet on Lake Champlain. Fire department personnel accessed the men from Plattsburgh with an inflatable rescue craft and brought one of the subjects safely to shore.
