MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich In 2019 Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer assembled the Michigan Joint Task Force on Jail and Pretrial Incarceration. Members of the task force were asked to study every facet of the state s criminal justice system, from the moment of arrest, to the treatment of felons after incarceration.
The task force included judges, police chiefs, county commissioners, members of the state house and senate and one county prosecutor, D.J. Hilson from Muskegon County.
Kimberly Schultz, an assistant general counsel at the Department of Healthcare and Family Services, will succeed Thomas starting next week. Schultz was a policy and budget analyst for the Senate

A MAN has been fined more than £2,400 after pleading guilty to fly-tipping on the Ridgeway.
David James, from Turbary Gardens, Tadley, was prosecuted following an investigation by officers from West Berkshire Council’s waste team.
The investigation started following a report and supporting evidence provided by a member of the public in October 2019.
There was evidence that Mr James deposited or knowingly caused waste to be fly-tipped on the Ridgeway near Compton, contrary to section 33(1)(a) and section 33(6) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

PALMER As required through the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act of 1994, Richmond Township has provided a notice of a discharge of untreated sewage from the sewer system.
This discharge is estimated to be 100 gallons and was caused by a broken force main located on Cliffs Mine property near the culvert on Warner Creek. The sanitary sewer overflow was primarily released to ground, but may have impacted Warner Creek.
The discharge began approximately mid-morning on Tuesday. The discharge was contained by noon that day.
