Visit Malta campaign targeted as Manchester United fans begin sponsor boycott

The Malta Tourism Authority’s Visit Malta campaign in partnership with Manchester United could be in jeopardy as a group of the club’s supporters have decided to boycott the club’s partners with the aim of attacking United owners’ income. In a letter, sent to over 50 companies who aid the club financially through their sponsorships, the group of supporters explained how the Glazers family has run riot with the club’s money and that in an attempt to stop this, they were urging fellow supporters to boycott, tarnish products and support competitors of the same companies whose investments “will be used for debt servicing and dividend”.

New double glazing scheme for Birżebbuġa residents launched

More than €500,000 are being invested in a scheme that will enable 260 Birżebbuġa residents to replace their old windows with double glazed ones for better protection from the surrounding noise pollution. The scheme is being wholly funded by the Freeport Corporation and will be managed by the Regulator for Energy and Water Services, Energy Minister Miriam Dalli and Economy Minister Silvio Schembri said on Thursday. Announcing a similar scheme in September 2019, then Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi had said Birżebbuġa residents are to be offered a grant of up to €2,000 for double glazing as part of a government drive to reduce the inconvenience of noise pollution from the nearby Freeport. Residents in 33 streets had been eligible to benefit from that scheme.

John Dalli calls Caruana Galizia perverse criminal , after 17 Black image link

Former EU Commissioner John Dalli has described slain journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia as a “perverse criminal”, as he objected to Times of Malta reproducing an image on her blog linking him to secret company 17 Black.  Dalli said reproduction of the February 2017 blog post was tantamount to “spinning the calumny of the perverse criminal Daphne Caruana Galizia and which she had fabricated without any attempt of any proof”. In a letter to Times of Malta, Dalli, who was forced to step down as EU Commissioner in 2012, took the opportunity to lash out at the public inquiry into the journalist’s death.
