Sun, Dec 27, 2020, 10:08 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka. Dec 27, Colombo: Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has said that Rs. 517 million has been allocated for the development of botanical gardens in the country next year.
The Minister further stated that the Peradeniya, Gampaha, Hakgala, Seethawaka and Mirijjawila Botanical Gardens will be developed under this initiative.
Accordingly, Rs. 177.1 million has been allocated for the development of the Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya, Rs. 60.5 million for the development of the Gampaha Henarathgoda Botanical Gardens and Ganewatta Herbal Gardens, Rs. 63.5 million for the development of the Hakgala Botanical Gardens, Rs. 25.58 million for the development of Mirijjawila Dry Zone Botanical Gardens and Rs. 24.2 million has been allocated for the development of the Seethawaka Wet Zone Botanical Gardens.

The much-awaited health guidelines for tourists are expected to be made public today after weeks-long, multiple rounds of discussions and fine-tuning by medical and tourism stakeholders.
A decision to this effect was made during a top-level meeting presided by Presidential Task Force for Economic Revival and Poverty Eradication Chairman Basil Rajapaksa yesterday.
Prior to yesterday’s meeting, Cabinet Ministers at their weekly engagement stressed on the need to finalise the guidelines as early as possible.

Russia-based tour operators have sought categorical assurance and a formal announcement from the Government on several relaxed rules to travel to Sri Lanka under a proposed pilot project set to start this weekend.
They claimed to date there has been neither an official declaration from the Government nor a final announcement on the guidelines on reopening borders.
The Government has decided to reopen Sri Lanka’s borders on 26 December as a pilot project, aiming to assess the protocols that have been put in place to handle the influx of tourists once the country’s borders are formally opened for international tourism by mid-January.
