UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and partners are appealing for US$1.2 billion to provide vital humanitarian assistance for more than 2.2 million South Sudanese refugees living in five neighbouring countries in 2021. South Sudan became the world’s youngest nation nearly a decade ago, but today millions of its population are displaced either inside or outside its borders. The crisis continues to be a children’s one with more than 65 per cent of the refugee population under 18, including 66,000 children who have been separated from their parents or usual caregivers.
