Red Bull junior, Juri Vips, is remaining realistic about his chances of rising up to Formula 1 in time for the 2022 season.
With Daniil Kvyat leaving the Red Bull sister team once again it opened up an opportunity for another young driver from the Red Bull programme to make the step up and learn their trade alongside Pierre Gasly at AlphaTauri for the 2021 campaign.
Vips had been progressing nicely but the Covid-19 pandemic derailed his plans to race in Japan’s Super Formula series last year and instead had to work his way through a scrappy season which included some races in the Formula Regional European Championship campaign and covering for the injured Sean Galael in F2 for DAMS.
Minardi: Imola hoping for permanent place on F1 calendar

Imola circuit president Giancarlo Minardi has revealed that the Italian venue is keen on becoming a permanent fixture on the Formula 1 calendar.
The historic track returned to F1 for the first time since 2006 last season, hosting the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
The circuit first came onto the calendar in 1980, hosting the Italian Grand Prix, before the San Marino Grand Prix became a staple between 1981 and 2006.
The action returns to Imola later this month for the second race of the 2021 season and looking ahead Minardi said that they were hoping to run a “well-organised GP” and will “see what happens in the future”.

Swiss operation G4 Racing has taken over Bhaitech’s Formula Regional European Championship entry for this year.
Since its creation in 2011, Bhaitech has won titles in Formula 4 and sportscar racing and was one of the first teams in Europe to commit to the Regional Formula 3 concept when it was introduced in 2019 in the Formula Renault Eurocup.
During 2020 it underwent ownership changes, that included briefly passing through the hands of the family of one of its F4 drivers Zdenek Chovanec, and it has now passed on its FREC entry and assets – including the cars – to G4.
“Formula Regional Championship by Alpine is the logical next step in the growing process of G4 Racing,” said the team’s sporting and technical manager Adrian Munoz, formerly of Koiranen GP.
Jamie Chadwick will spend a third year with the Williams Formula 1 team as a development driver, with an increased programme in the team’s simulator in 2021.
