The driver of a 4WD which smashed into a packed school bus near Gympie is in a serious but stable condition after the crash claimed the life of his passenger.

Subscriber only A motorbike rider is being assessed for critical injuries after a serious two-vehicle crash which closed a Bruce Highway off ramp for several hours. Emergency services were called to the Pumicestone Rd off ramp of the highway at Elimbah after the crash was reported at 9.40am. A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a motorbike rider was assessed for critical injuries and that a high acuity response unit was required on scene.

UPDATE 11.30AM:
Two people have been rushed to hospital following a truck and vehicle pileup at Tanawha on Wednesday morning.
Emergency services responded to reports of a three-vehicle crash along Tanawha Tourist Dr, Tanawha about 10.34am.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said three people had been assessed and two taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
The spokeswoman said the pair were taken to hospital in a stable condition.
The other, believed to be a man, was assessed but declined further treatment.
