Severe thunderstorms with the potential to contain heavy rainfall, large hail and damaging winds have been forecast for the Sunshine Coast by Saturday.
It comes after a late afternoon thunderstorm on Tuesday which fellow forecaster Michael Paech described as pretty intense . Conondale received 59mm in an hour during one isolated storm and 62mm overall, while the hinterland suburbs copped widespread rainfall of between 10-30mm. Those storms have already started west of the Coast, Mr Claassen said. The Gold Coast and Brisbane have a decent chance of showers and storms, but it will be less likely to be severe as it approaches the southeast. Inland parts of the Sunshine Coast have about a 40 per cent chance of storms today, less likely on the coastline. Maroochydore is only 20 per cent.
