Prisons Prime Testing Ground for Dehumanizing Hi-Tech Advances — Strategic Culture

Prisons Prime Testing Ground for Dehumanizing Hi-Tech ‘Advances’ A new form of exploitation, known as “stakeholder capitalism,” is already being tested in many places around the world and prisons are among the main targets for its implementation, as they provide an ideal and literally captive market for its proof of concept.  By Raul DIEGO Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is coming under fire again from Democratic lawmakers, as well as from the American Postal Workers Union, who are calling for President Joe Biden to pave the way for DeJoy’s removal after the Trump-appointee announced higher mailing fees and logistical changes that could further slow down mail. The US Postal Service (USPS) has already suffered a more than 50% drop in on-time arrivals for first-class mail deliveries, according to the service’s own data.

The US Postal Service (USPS) has already suffered a more than 50% drop in on-time arrivals for first-class mail deliveries, according to the service’s own data. Until recently, I’d accepted that I’d never see her again. But lately, she’s been sending me 30-second videos: Mom and Magic, her fat, one-eyed black cat, showing me love through the seven-inch screen of a tablet made by a service provider called JPay. It costs her about a dollar to send each message; to me, they are priceless.

State to close three prisons as advocates call for reinvestment in marginalized communities

State to close three prisons as advocates call for reinvestment in marginalized communities The number of people in correctional facilities has plummeted over the past decade. Gov. Ned Lamont proposed ‘right-sizing’ Connecticut’s correctional system Wednesday, saying the state will close three facilities due to a decade-long decline in the prison population that has become even more precipitous since the beginning of the pandemic. The state’s incarcerated population has decreased by 49% between January 2011 to January 2021. Closing prisons and their housing units would save money by reducing staff overtime costs and focusing resources on a smaller number of correctional facilities. The Department of Correction currently operates 14 prisons and jails that hold 9,047 people, an occupancy rate of 54%, said the governor’s budget director, Melissa McCaw.
