Of those, 400 are currently in prison. A force spokesman said it is the police s duty to protect communities - and they do so by working with other agencies to manage the risks posed by violent and sexual offenders who have the potential to cause the most serious harm . The constabulary has issued the following information.
REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS. There are 2380 Registered Sex Offenders in the Avon and Somerset force area, which include 400 currently in prison. The majority of them live in our communities. With proper treatment and supervision, many can live productive and stable lives. Their behaviour is monitored and if they are believed to be at risk for reoffending or do not comply with their licence conditions, they may be returned to prison.

A man has been charged after allegedly indecently assaulting a 12-year-old girl at a train station in Perth.
The man, 28, was arrested early Friday morning by sex offender management squad officers after the incident Bull Creek station in Perth s southern suburbs.
The young girl was allegedly assault at 6.40am while waiting at the station.

Sheldon Bateson A SEX offender who was found sleeping rough in a park following three days on the run has been jailed after he was found to be in possession of hundreds of child abuse images. On May 4 Sheldon Bateson, who was previously convicted of child indecent image offences and subject of a notification requirement, was arrested in Witton Park. This followed a three day search after Bateson broke the terms of a court order by failing to register a change in living circumstances which meant he was of no fixed address.
