Lawmakers to scrap Cuomo’s booze-with-food COVID rule

Lawmakers will repeal several executive orders issued by Gov. Cuomo during the COVID crisis on Wednesday, including a controversial rule requiring food be purchased when ordering an alcoholic beverage at a bar or restaurant.
Cuomo’s no-booze-without-food mandate, which has been re-upped on a monthly basis, was slated to expire on May. 6.
First instituted last summer, the governor’s guidance faced opposition from eateries and taverns that have struggled to keep up with myriad restrictions throughout the pandemic including curfews and capacity limits.

NEW YORK (WKBW) â The New York State Senate Majority has announced that lawmakers plan to suspend several of Governor Andrew Cuomo s executive orders, including a rule that food must be purchased with alcohol at bars and restaurants.
Senate Democrats say they plan to vote on Wednesday.
According to the Senate, the Executive Order Directives that will be acted on include:
Repeal of Sale of Food with Alcoholic Beverage Requirement: Food sales will no longer be required for alcoholic beverage sales in bars and restaurants, for on premise or off premise consumption.

The state Senate on Tuesday approved a package of measures meant to bolster water quality in the state, including bills that would lead to testing for lead in public parks, a ban on pesticide usage at children s camps and a ban on coal tar.
The legislation was approved as part of a recognition of Water Week, and cheered by environmental organizations.
“Water quality and its protection are critical to the wellbeing of our communities.” Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said. “New Yorkers deserve to be assured of the safety of their water, and we must protect this invaluable resource. I commend the sponsors for their leadership in protecting our portable water sources from pollution and ensuring that every New Yorker has a water supply they can trust.”
