Inside Trump s pressure campaign to overturn the election

Inside Trump’s pressure campaign to overturn the election POLITICO 12/21/2020 By Anita Kumar and Gabby Orr © Al Drago/Getty Images President Donald Trump’s efforts to cling to power are unprecedented in American history. It started with a phone call. In mid-November, President Donald Trump rang Monica Palmer, the Republican chair of an obscure board in Michigan that had just declared Joe Biden winner of the state’s most populous county. Within 24 hours, Palmer announced she wanted to “rescind” her vote. Her reasoning mirrored Trump’s public and private rants: The Nov. 3 election may have been rife with fraud. “The Wayne County election had serious process flaws which deserve investigation,” she wrote in an affidavit. “I continue to ask for information to assure Wayne County voters that these elections were conducted fairly and accurately.”

Michigan Senate approves $465M COVID-19 relief package

The Michigan Senate approved a $465 million COVID-19 relief package late Friday, with millions dedicated to direct aid for unemployed workers and assistance for struggling small businesses.  The measure comes after days of negotiations between legislative leaders and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, all of whom have faced pressure from citizens and businesses desperate for help to survive the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Senate approved the measure by a 35-2 vote, indicating widespread bipartisan support. Whitmer and House Speaker Lee Chatfield, R-Levering, did not immediately respond to questions about the bill, but the near-unanimous vote likely indicates a compromise reached between the legislative and executive branches.

SOS - Last day for Shirkey to support military voting rights

SOS Last day for Shirkey to support military voting rights DECEMBER 18, 2020 Today is the last day for Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey to support the voting rights of Michigan service members and their spouses who are serving overseas. Senate Bill 117 would give these Michigan citizens the ability to return their absentee ballots electronically via a secure portal, ensuring that the U.S. Postal Service does not delay their vote beyond when it can be counted on Election Day. The bill passed both the state House and Senate in September by overwhelming bipartisan majorities, and yet Sen. Shirkey has since unilaterally refused to deliver it for Governor Gretchen Whitmer to sign into law.
