Biden says Democratic win in Georgia Senate polls will see $2k checks reaching people: Power is in your hands

Copy to Clipboard (Getty Images) President-elect Joe Biden on Monday, January 4, told voters in Georgia that a third coronavirus stimulus check will be a reality if the Democrats won the crucial Senate runoff elections in the state on Tuesday, January 5. The blue party will be able to flip the Peach State if they manage to bag both seats albeit a 50-50 split since Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will have the tie-breaking vote.  Though Congress recently passed a second Covid-19 relief package, an effort to increase the paychecks from $600 to $2,000 did not materialize despite President Trump s backing. A separate bill towards that direction was passed by the Democrat-dominated House but Senate Majority Leader McConnell refused to support it, calling the idea “socialism for rich people”.

Mitch McConnell: Overturning Election Would Cause Death Spiral for USA

6 Jan 2021 Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Wednesday that Congress certifying President Donald Trump as the winner of the 2020 presidential election would result in a “death spiral” for the United States. McConnell made his remarks on the Senate floor as the upper chamber began debating an objection to the certification of Arizona’s electoral results. “If this election were overturned by mere allegations from the losing side, our democracy would enter a death spiral,” he said. “We’d never see our country accept an election again.” FULL SPEECH: Senate Majority Leader McConnell addresses Electoral College vote count objections on the US Senate floor:

Senate Republicans face a clear choice on Wednesday: They can either side with President Donald Trump and challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election based on no evidence or they can vote in support of the actual outcome, the will of the voters, and the country’s Democratic process. The decision should be an obvious one, but it has split the conference. While Senate leadership, including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, has previously urged Republicans to refrain from objecting to the election results, at least 13 lawmakers, including Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Ron Johnson (R-WI), have already expressed their plans to do so.

GoLocalProv | New Year s Political Predictions – The Sunday Political Brunch —January 3, 2021

President-Elect Joe Biden 2020 was a weird political year, and 2021 portends to be no different. Yes, we are getting a new President of the United States and a new Congress, but the nation is on a political roller-coaster ride, so I think we’ll see a lot of shenanigans to come. Let’s “brunch” on that this week.   “To Stimulate; or Not to Stimulate?” – That is the big question! President Trump has now signed the latest COVID-19 aid package, but there could be political consequences, even though he is leaving office. While the president won a lot of points for suggesting $2,000 checks for each American (after the fact), rather than the approved $600. Well, $600 is still better than nothing to most folks. Talk about strange political bedfellows, when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came out in support of Trump’s $2,000 idea. It was House Republicans who blocked the House Democrats unanimous consent attempt, though it eventually was approv
