DeSantis Announces $1,000 Bonus Checks to Florida First Responders: ‘We’re Funding the Police’
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced a round of one-time $1,000 bonuses for first responders including firefighters and law enforcement officers saying on May 5 that “we’re funding the police and then some.”
DeSantis traveled to Satellite Beach, Temple Terrace, and Fort Myers to announce the bonuses for around 174,000 first responders across the state, including for paramedics, emergency medical technicians, firefighters, and law enforcement officers.
“Some want to defund the police. We’re funding the police and then some, and that’s what we’re here today to say,” the governor stated at a news conference in front of the Satellite Beach Police Department, drawing nods of approval and applause from first responders and members of law enforcement who stood alongside DeSantis at the event.

DeSantis said unemployment claimants will likely have to start showing how they looked for work once an executive order waiving a work-search requirement ends May 29.

Gov. Ron DeSantis expects late this month to reinstate a requirement that people in the unemployment system submit weekly âwork searchâ updates.
Referring to some businesses saying they are unable to find new employees as they regroup from the COVID-19 pandemic, DeSantis said Wednesday unemployment claimants will likely have to start showing how they looked for work once an executive order waiving a work-search requirement ends May 29.

A municipal mandate remains in place through Sunday that requires the use of masks in most public situations. Have plane, will travel Gov. Ron DeSantis zipped across the state on Wednesday. Three stops. Three media markets. And at each visit, the governor held up a $1,000 check that will soon by sent out to the state’s first responders, police and firefighters.
