The pressure is ramping up even more on Governor Andrew Cuomo, as a committee to investigate the potential impeachment of Cuomo was announced Thursday by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie amid persistent calls for the governor to be removed from office.
The committee will be led by Long Island Democratic Assemblyman Chuck Lavine. The reports of accusations concerning the governor are serious, Heastie said in a statement. The committee will have the authority to interview witnesses, subpoena documents and evaluate evidence, as is allowed by the New York State Constitution. I have the utmost faith that Assemblymember Lavine and the members of the committee will conduct an expeditious, full and thorough investigation.

Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay is urging the Assembly Committee on Judiciary to move quickly on the impeachment investigation reviewing alleged misconduct by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
“The Committee on Judiciary’s investigation cannot be used as a mechanism to buy more time,” Barclay wrote. “We have a budget to develop, a public health crisis to deal with, and the state’s economic recovery to advance.
Andrew Cuomo no longer has the trust and credibility to serve as governor of this state. An impeachment investigation is a significant step. But, Assembly Democrats must acknowledge that time is of the essence and that time has run out on Andrew Cuomo.”

But how would impeachment work in New York if it comes to that? Here s a question and answer below.
1. How rare is this?
New York lawmakers have only impeached and removed one governor in New York history. William Sulzer was impeached and eventually removed from office in 1913, ostensibly over campaign donations, but also because machine politicians who were part of Tammany Hall wanted him gone.

A cascade of Democratic members of Congress who represent New York in Washington on Friday called for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign amid allegations from a half dozen women he sexually harassed them or engaged in inappropriate behavior.
The calls for Cuomo to step down include influential members like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The Queens progressive released a joint statement with Rep. Jamaal Bowman, who pointed to the dozens of Democrats in the state Senate and Assembly who have also called for Cuomo to resign.
“We believe these women, we believe the reporting, we believe the Attorney General, and we believe the fifty-five members of the New York State legislature, they said.
