Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said he won t voluntarily leave office as crises engulfing his administration including allegations by multiple women of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior, as well as scruinty over his handling of nursing home deaths during the pandemic continue to mount. The stance has led some lawmakers to raise the possibility of impeachment in order to force Cuomo from office.
Fines and Fees Justice Center
The Florida Legislature has added more than 20 new categories of what are called legal financial obligations (LFOs) to the criminal justice process since 1996, according to a 2010 report from the Brennan Center for Justice. They did so, the report says, without examining whether added debt “promotes recidivism or otherwise hinders reentry into society for those convicted of crimes.”
When individuals fail to make payments, they may get be sanctioned, including having their driver’s licenses suspended. According to a report from the Fines & Fees Justice Center, in 2017 more than a million suspension notices were sent to Florida drivers because of overdue court debt. The report also found that 72 percent of driver’s license suspensions in Florida are for unpaid fines and fees, not for unsafe driving.

The top Democrats in the state Senate think Gov. Andrew Cuomo should resign. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie questioned whether the governor can remain in office.
But Cuomo has indicated hours before those blockbuster statements on Sunday that there is no way he ll be leaving office voluntarily, as his administration is beset by multiple scandals ranging from the reporting of nursing home deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic, to allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior with women.
That will leave lawmakers with a handful of options: Continuing working with a governor they have publicly called on to step down, or the first impeachment and removal of a governor in more than a century.
