BIRTHDAY: The 104th birthday celebrations of Private Arthur Rollins THERE was a special 104th birthday surprise for a resident of a Worcester care home. Private Arthur Rollins celebrated another milestone birthday at South Hayes Care Home, in London Road, with a visit from a watchman from the The Staffordshire Regimental Association and drummer from The Mercian Regiment. Pte Rollins served in the 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment between 1939 and 1946. In December 1940 he was involved in Operation Compass, and in June 1942 he was involved with Field Marshal Montgomery’s 8th Army in other major battles in The North Africa campaign such as Tobruk and El Alemein.
DEFENCE families have been turned away from a forum dedicated to a veteran suicide crisis and other underlying issues, as Jacqui Lambie s information sessions turn into a fiasco. The families were shut-out of the meeting at the Townsville RSL and were told there would be other opportunities to meet with Senator Lambie, Federal MP Bob Katter and Voice of Veteran founder Heston Russell. The RSL forum was meant to be open to all veterans and families, Mr Russell said. I got contacted by a number of veterans that they were not allowed to come to the RSL because the President said it was only those he approved.
