Plateau Attacks: Herders killed 41 people in Irigwe in four months- Communities demand justice

The Irigwe Development Association and the Irigwe Youth Movement of Miango District in Bassa LGA of Plateau State on Tuesday disclosed that suspected Fulani herdsmen have killed 41 of its people in repeated attacks in several communities between February and May, 2021.
The groups also said the deaths have resulted in many orphans and widows in the affected communities.
They disclosed that 25 houses were burnt down and farms with crops were also destroyed in 12 villages during the period under review.
The National President Irigwe Development Association, Prince Robert Dodo disclosed this while briefing journalists in Jos, the State Capital, in company of other national officials.

Major Gen. Henry Ayoola (rtd), former Chief of Defence Research and Development has said that Nigeria’s Armed Forces need overwhelming power to triumph over the various security challenges facing the country, particularly Boko Haram in the Northeast.
Ayoola, a former Commander of the Operation Safe Haven in Nigeria’s north-central region, stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s Newsnight which aired on Monday.
He explained that with the combination of more personnel, arms and strategic training, several security threats such as banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, among others, can be effectively tackled.
Ayoola said, “What we need to win that war and win it in the shortest time is overwhelming force. When I say overwhelming force, it starts with the troops on the ground, the numbers.

Mr Attahiru and 10 other military officers died in a military plane crash that occurred in Kaduna.
They were on their way to Zaria for the passing out parade of regular recruits slated for the next day.
The officers, including three brigadier generals, have since been buried at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.
Mr Attahiru was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the 21st COAS on January 26 alongside other service chiefs, including the Chief of Defence Staff, Lucky Irabor; Chief of Naval Staff, Gambo Awwal, and Chief of Air Staff, Isiaka Amao.
Gunmen attacked Dong Community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau on Sunday and killed seven persons.
“At about 8 p.m. on Sunday, we received a distress call that gunmen invaded Dong Village and killed seven persons, police spokesman in Plateau, ASP Ubah Ogaba, said in a statement issued on Monday in Jos.
“A combined team of policemen, personnel of Operation Safe Haven, and Vigilance operatives, raced to the scene but the hoodlums had fled into the bush. x
“Investigation is on-going, Frantic effort is on to arrest the fleeing suspects.
“Meanwhile security has been beefed up in that area to prevent escalation of violence or reprisal,’’ he added.
