A raft of victory photos hang on the walls of Israel’s Hall of Glory. They haven’t been won in the current round of fighting, waiting for a “victory” of its own. Ever since Israel imposed a suffocating blockade on the Gaza Strip, it has notched one victory after another. It won the Pillar of Defense air offensive in 2012, Operation Cast Lead in the winter of 2008-09, Operation Protective Edge in 2014 and Operation Black Belt against Islamic Jihad in 2019, as well as hundreds of smaller clashes.
In all these operations, thousands of people were killed or wounded, many of them innocent bystanders, including women and children. The mutual damage is enormous, with houses destroyed, factories shuttered, Gaza turned into rubble and Israelis losing their sense of personal security.

The Hebrew Israelites Community of Dimona in southern Israel is launching a campaign, including a big event in Tel Aviv on May 20, aimed at derailing Interior Ministry attempts to deport dozens of people who had been seeking legal status to stay.
According to the ministry’s Population and Immigration Authority, 17 letters have been sent to 51 individuals, many of whom are single parents. The letters order them to leave the country within 60 days. Recipients have the right to appeal.

We reported yesterday how the AP was furious that Israel had leveled the building in which they had offices in Gaza because they were sharing it was Hamas.
We asked the basic question: how could they not know they were sharing the building with Hamas?
The AP issued a statement saying they’d been in the building for 15 years and had no indication that Hamas was in the building.
We are shocked and horrified that the Israeli military would target and destroy the building housing AP’s bureau and other news organizations in Gaza. They have long known the location of our bureau and knew journalists were there. We received a warning that the building would be hit.
Dwight Howard – Damian Lillard – Kyrie Irving (Via MSNBC.com) – As Israel sends air and ground troops into Gaza in violation of international law, more people in the United States, from members of Congress to Jewish American organizations, are speaking out against it. Constituencies whom the Israeli state has traditionally looked to for support are in rebellion. Criticism is also coming from the world of sports.

If there has ever been a third rail at the intersection of sports and politics, it has been expressing any kind of solidarity with the Palestinian people that requires criticizing Israel.
