PANAMA CITY BEACH Panama City Beach police have identified a local pedestrian who was hit and killed by a car on April 11.
Kenneth Wayne Hargitt, 57, of Panama City Beach, was hit about 9:35 p.m. near the AutoZone store at 11600 Panama City Beach Parkway, Panama City Beach police reported.
Hargitt was struck by a 2004 Mercury Grand Prix driven by David Lauderdale 52, also of Panama City Beach, when he was crossing the highway s westbound lanes, a news release said. Hargitt died at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation by the Police Department s traffic homicide unit.

SPRINGFIELD A Springfield mother shot and killed one daughter and tried to kill another before killing herself Sunday evening, police say.
According to a Springfield Police press release, the incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. in the area of 518 N Everitt Avenue. The identities of the mother and daughters were not released on Monday.
The press release states that after receiving a 911 call, police spoke with a 15-year-old girl who said she awoke to her mother pointing a pistol at her. The child told officers that she then fled from her home to a neighbor’s residence.

PANAMA CITY Bay County anglers will have 55 days to fish for red snapper this season starting in June.
According to a press release from the office of Gov. Ron DeSantis, anglers can begin recreational fishing for the coveted fish June 4 and the season will continue through July 28.
The release also stated that there is a possibility for a fall opening if there is still a quota available.
This season will apply to those fishing from private recreational vessels in Gulf of Mexico state and federal waters, as well as charter vessels that do not have a federal reef fish permit and are limited to fishing in state waters only, the release said.

PANAMA CITY A 23-year-old Panama City man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 231 just before midnight Wednesday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a sport utility vehicle was traveling southbound near Ormond Avenue when the vehicle left the roadway and traveled into the center median. The SUV rolled over and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.
EMS pronounced the driver dead on the scene, the release said.
The next of kin has been notified.
