Chelsea splash pad to open soon Photo by Erin Nelson. The Splash Pad at Melrose Park, seen June 16 as it nears completion, is set to open July 1. With summer in full swing, Chelsea now has a new place to beat the heat. The Splash Pad at Melrose Park recently was scheduled to open July 1, but the opening date has been pushed back due to delays. The splash pad is the most recent addition to Melsorse Park, located next to the playground behind the Chelsea Community Center. Construction on the project began in the fall of 2020 and was initially planned to be completed by Memorial Day, but the timeline had to be extended due to weather events and construction delays.

Chelsea Business Alliance President Donna Bowles and Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Chair Chris Grace announce the partnership of the two organizations during the Fire at the Foothills event April 17. The Chelsea Business Alliance is under new leadership and also has a new partnership with the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. On May 1, the two organizations will begin working more closely together on a variety of programs for their respective investors and internally with staffing support provided by the Shelby County Chamber. Donna Bowles is the 2021 president of the CBA. In her new role, her goal is to open back up the lines of communication within the city’s businesses and along with an active Board of Directors and the support of the chamber and the city, to provide a place to meet each month and share the successes, growth and pride of Chelsea.

Nick Grant Program continues to provide funds to Chelsea schools Funds from the Nick Grant program continue to provide needed items for Chelsea schools.  During the April 6 council meeting, Forest Oaks Principal Stevi Sims addressed the mayor and council and thanked them for their financial support through the program.  “On behalf of the faculty and staff of Forest Oaks, I would like to say thank you very much for the opportunity for our faculty being able to participate in the Nick Grant Program, and for the funding of over $69,000, Sims said. “We were able to purchase over 55 Chromebooks, over $6,000 worth of iPads, White Boards, two Macbook Pros, STEM material and science material. We thank you very much for your support and continuing our efforts to provide our students with the most fun and engaging experience we can provide them with.”
