Telecom operators are spooked the Cellular Operators Association of India put out a press release on Friday branding as “FALSE” rumours, with the organisation’s Director General saying, “I appeal fellow citizens to beware of these fake messages. Together we can fight this menace of misinformation.”

There is no doubt that the telecom field-force continues to work relentlessly to ensure uninterrupted data and voice services across the country and that in this endeavour the risk exposure for Covid-19 is high,” Prakash wrote to the Health Ministry.

Telecom industry slams absolutely false rumours linking 5G trials to COVID; shares concerns with DoT Representative image Telecom industry body COAI on Friday expressed concern over rumours related to 5G technology with the spread of COVID-19. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), whose members include Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, said it has come across multiple messages on social media platforms as well as reports in a few regional media mentioning 5G spectrum trials as the probable cause for rising COVID-19 cases. In a joint statement on Friday, the COAI and the Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) expressed their concern regarding false rumours connecting 5G technology with the spread of COVID-19.
