Mindful Morning Coffee Hour Aug 5, 12, 19, 26 from 8-9 am

<p>Stress Less With Mindfulness introduces participants to the experience and practice of mindfulness, with a goal of reducing stress. Mindfulness can be defined as paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally. Research has shown that practicing mindfulness is effective in reducing stress-related symptoms such as worry, depression and physical tension, and may be helpful in managing chronic conditions.</p> <p>Stress Less with Mindfulness teaches and encourages the use of mindfulness self-care skills to help one feel better and enjoy life more. The program covers mindful breathing, mindful eating, physical processes in the brain and body and mindful laughter.</p> <p>Stress Less with Mindfulness is a program authored by West Virginia Extension.</p> <p>This series will be available over Zoom. 2021 Rising Stars: Latrina Ollie

As a young woman in Southeast Colorado Springs, Latrina Ollie looked around and saw all the problems many others see when they visit her corner of town: higher rates of crime and poverty than most other parts of the city, a lack of economic development, and too few opportunities for young people to realize a better future for themselves. Rather than look for answers outside of the neighborhoods where she grew up, Ollie realized that the changes she and her neighbors were seeking could — and perhaps should — come from within. “For me, it was always just a matter of wanting to do more, not really knowing how to do more, but I knew there was something that needed to be done,” said Ollie. “That’s when I was able to help form a community engagement group, called Be the Change 719.”
