Not long after the C8-generation Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was unveiled, there were some rumors that Cadillac could launch its own version of the sports car. While we now know that will not happen, there is at least one C8 Corvette out there that is having a bit of an identity crisis.
A clip recently uploaded online by the owner of a C8 Corvette reveals that on start-up, the infotainment screen of his car doesn’t show a Corvette logo as it should but displays a Cadillac logo instead.
According to the owner, the infotainment system of his Corvette stuffed up when he was out shopping at Costco. When he returned to his car, all of his radio pre-sets had been deleted and when starting up the car, it now proudly displays the Cadillac crest. The owner shuts off and turns on the car two times to show that this wasn’t just a one-off occurrence either.
Okay. so now what?
The owner of this Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe has an unusual problem. He doesn t know how to resolve it and his local Chevy dealership will likely be equally shocked. Thanks to a video posted by owner Jaysmizle on YouTube, he s able to show the world that his C8 thinks it s a Cadillac. There s clearly a software bug because whenever he starts up the car, a Cadillac crest logo appears on the main touchscreen. This isn t just a one-time thing.
He shut off the car and pressed the ignition button a second time to prove his point. And there it was. Again. That crest logo. What s more, this system bug wipes out all of his radio pre-sets and Bluetooth connection.
According to Australia s
Wheels magazine, the Z06 will be the first Corvette since the C4 ZR1 to feature an engine without pushrods. It is said to be closely related to Cadillac s Blackwing 4.2-liter V8. It s not the first time that the Blackwing name could have merged with a Vette, but this time it seems like it ll actually happen. However, the report says that the engine won t have turbos as in the Blackwing, but will be built on the same assembly line and will have different cylinder heads and a flat-plane crank. As such, it is rumored to be capable of revving to 9,000 rpm. Oh, and it will be the most powerful normally aspirated V8 with a whopping 616 horsepower.
Split-window Chevrolet Corvette imagined
Iconic 1963 split-window Sting Ray design brought back to life on new C8 Corvette
In 1963 a number of significant events occurred that changed the world forever: the assassination of US president John F Kennedy took place, Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to travel into space, and in the car world the iconic split-window Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray busted out.
Following the 1953 original, the second-generation Corvette also made its debut in 1963, along with the Sting Ray name, and in that year only the split rear window was deployed. Train-spotters will know the name became Stingray with the C3 Corvette in 1968, then disappeared until the C7 in 2014.
