NoseID can scan your dog’s unique nose print to help find them if they get lost The innovative nose-scanning smartphone app developed by Adam&eve ddb for petcare brand Iams is hoping to help millions of lost pets find their way home again. Words One in three pets will be lost at some point in their life; in fact ten million pets are reported lost or stolen in the US every year. To help tackle this, petcare brand Iams has launched a beta version of its innovative new mobile app NoseID, which uses first-of-its-kind nose-scanning smartphone technology to identify lost dogs by their nose print – which is unique to each dog, much like a human fingerprint.

The brand will roll out a two-strong range of dry food – one for dogs and the other for cats – via direct-to-consumer from 26 April. Packed in paper bags that are both recyclable and compostable, they are made from black soldier fly meal mixed with the likes of seaweed and sweet potato. “We’ve worked with world-leading vets and nutritionists to make sure every ingredient is there for a reason,” said Aardvark founder Hugo Walters.

Construction is expected to begin at the end of the year on the Clinton, Okla.-based plant.  “The Clinton plant continues to be one of our fastest-growing plants in Red Collar Pet Foods’ coast-to-coast network,” said Greg Wolking, chief operating officer, Red Collar Pet Foods. “When completed, the warehouse expansion enables capacity for future growth and additional hiring.”

Called Lovebug, it is a dry catfood made from black soldier fly larvae insect meal, as well as “essential nutrients such as amino acids” and a vegan coating. It is the first 100% insect-based cat food to be launched by a major supplier in the UK (although it is manufactured in Germany).  Mars is billing the NPD, which was created in collaboration with sustainability business Futerra, as a significantly more sustainable option than competitor petcare brands, with a smaller environmental footprint.
