When the big Minnesota Winter ice bar event happens in Downtown Rochester, it s snowy, icy, super cold.except for the times it s warm and meltly. And this is one of those times. Normally, it would start Wednesday the 3rd, but it s too warm, so the Pandemic Styled SocialICE, called Improv-ICE, announced some date improvising. This year the event will run February 6 - 14.
Monika Kopet, Rochester Downtown Alliance director of events was on KROC-AM 1340 and 96.9 FM s Rochester Today today to describe how the event will be different (no bars!), and said it was super likely there d be a delay in the ice sculpture presentation because of the sun.
Sadly we are going to be missing our typical SocialICE get-together this winter but it s been modified a bit and turned into Improv-ICE! There will still be some fun things to check out during Improv-ICE but one event also helps those in need in the area. It s called the Buy a Meal, Give a Meal campaign.
How does the Buy a Meal, Give a Meal campaign work? It s pretty simple. Starting February 4th through February 11th you purchase something from participating local businesses and for each transaction, a group of community supporters will donate a meal to Channel One Regional Food Bank. For EVERY transaction! We could feed a lot of people during this event.

(ABC 6 News) SocialICE has been a staple in downtown Rochester for more than 10 years. The annual ice event put on by the Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) usually draws in thousands of people.
But with the pandemic, things needed to change if they wanted to keep it going. We thought, what would be safe and allow people to come through at their leisure? So we have Improv-ICE, says Holly Masek, Executive Director for the Downtown Rochester Alliance.
Instead of just one weekend, Improv-ICE will be a week-long event. RDA hopes this will keep crowd sizes small.

ROCHESTER, Minn. - A young girl in Rochester is spreading some cheer in her neighborhood, while also fighting hunger.
What started out as 6-year-old Molly Patch caroling in her neighborhood with her furry friend, turned into something so much bigger. Neighbors started donating money to her and what did she do with it? She wanted to buy groceries to give to Channel One Regional Food Bank. KIMT News 3 spoke with Molly and her parents to see why she wanted to do this. Her reason was a simple one. Because a lot of people didn t have as much food this year, explained Molly.
