Somerset County names Teacher of the Year

Somerset County Public Schools has named Logan Webster, history teacher at Crisfield Academy & High School, as the district’s 2021 Teacher of the Year.
Webster graduated from Goucher College in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in history with a concentration in secondary education, and in 2020 earned his master’s in Educational Leadership from Salisbury University.
For the past seven years, Webster has taught U.S. history at Crisfield Academy and High School. While there, Webster launched the school’s Student Government Association, formed the junior varsity boys soccer team and facilitated the Andrea Joyner Memorial Walk.

SOMERSET CO., Md. – A staff member from Somerset County Public Schools who nearly lost everything was presented with a generous gift.
The Somerset County Technical High School chapter of Skills USA recently held a fundraiser for Caffey Jones. We’re told Jones, who is a valued SCPS employee, was forced to relocate earlier this year due to a fire. She and her family lost most of their possessions.
Skills USA, along with the SCPS community, rallied together and presented Mrs. Jones with a $217 check to assist her with relocating to a new home.

Somerset county public schools head back for in-person learning, full time

SOMERSET CO., Md – The school district made an announcement to welcome back 56% of enrolled students for in-person learning. The remaining 44% of students and their families chose to continue the rest of the school year, virtually.
Unlike neighboring school districts, Somerset will not have a hybrid learning option. School officials say, this decision comes after considering classroom sizes, transportation, and class scheduling. They found a way to return to in-person learning full time.
We’re told they’re focused on providing the best options for students education, while also ensuring their safety. With the use of a COVID safety officer, they say they believe this is the right choice and will get kids back on track to finishing the school year. We’re told this is due to local COVID-19 health metrics remaining above the state recommended benchmarks for safe in-person learning. As of Tuesday, Somerset County’s 7-day positivity rate is 10.12% and the case rate per 100,000.
