Press Release: Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District Selected for Reach for the Upside!
Fairfield, CA (February 3, 2021) – Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) was one of thirty Northern California public school districts hand-picked to apply for a new initiative titled Reach for the Upside! This initiative is funded by Genentech in collaboration with Stanford s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (the d.school).
Over the last several months, Genentech conducted extensive research on public school districts with strong leadership and a track record of innovation. FSUSD emerged out of this research and was invited to submit an application to participate in a “design sprint.” The “design sprint” will consist of four workshops and three coaching sessions on innovative programming and funding.
SCOE resource development chief earns top administrator honors

FAIRFIELD Susan Labrecque, director of resource development and transition services for the Solano County Office of Education, has been named the Career Technical Education Administrator of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators.
The award is given to individuals for “significant contributions to education through outstanding performance and achievements,” according to a statement from the Office of Education.
“We are thrilled to see Susan recognized as an ACSA administrator of the year. She is an inspiring woman who is a true advocate for students, and a tremendous partner for staff, SCOE and the U.S. Air Force,” Solano County Superintendent of Schools Lisette Estrella-Henderson said in the statement.
FAIRFIELD Applications are being accepted for Operation Recognition, a program that provides high school diplomas to United States veterans and Japanese-American citizens who were unable to finish high school due to wartime circumstances.

More than 5,000 Solano transitional kindergartners, kindergartners get backpacks
FAIRFIELD Backpacks filled with pencils, crayons, paper, letter-sounds, sight word cards and other early learning basics are being delivered to 5,500 transitional kindergartners and kindergartners in Solano County public schools.
The Solano County Office of Education partnered with the First 5 Solano Commission and Solano County Library Literacy Services to provide the early learning backpacks.

Kris Corey
Superintendent Kris Corey has over 30 years of experience in education. Her career began when she was recruited to California from South Dakota to teach at the elementary level. After 13 years in the classroom, Kris entered administration. She has served as an assistant principal, elementary principal, Director of Elementary Education, and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services prior to becoming superintendent of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District.
Kris graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development. She received her Master’s Degree from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California, in Educational Leadership. She is a fierce advocate for students and believes every student should be career and college ready upon graduation.
