FAIRFIELD The Solano County Planning Commission on Thursday will revisit an issue it thought it had taken care of more than three months ago.
The commission recommended Nov. 19 that the Board of Supervisors approve an ordinance that would require a minor use permit, rather than an administrative p
Vacation rental request returns to Solano Planning Commission
FAIRFIELD The Solano County Planning Commission will take a second attempt Thursday at deciding whether to approve a use permit application for a short-term vacation rental on Edinburg Court in rural Green Valley.
The same item was before the commission at its last meeting, but technical issues with the call-in system left the panel without a quorum.
Tourist homes have been a controversial issue in Solano County, and this application by Lee Heyman and Amanda Rothstein has again drawn a line between opponents and proponents.
The planning staff recommends approval of the use permit.
Letter to the Editor: Rural neighborhood not a tourist destination
We are appealing to the Solano County Planning Commission and Solano County Board of Supervisors to withhold approval of any application for unhosted short-term vacation rental properties, but in particular for a property on Edinburg Court in Green Valley Highlands in unincorporated Solano County. Short-term rentals are for stays from a few days to a week or more, but less than 30 days. A hearing for approval of this permit is scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21.
This regulation allowing unhosted short-term rentals was passed by the Board of Supervisors in 2018, with most residents unaware of its existence. Unfortunately, Solano County doesn’t have adequate personnel to regulate these rentals. If unscrupulous owners, or overly ambitious proprietors, choose to flaunt the rules set up by the regulation, there are few alternatives for disturbed neighbors, other than to call the Sheriff’s Office, take pictures and
Push to limit ‘tourist homes’ in Solano strengthens
FAIRFIELD An application for an unhosted short-term vacation permit is likely to see strong pushback when the Solano County Planning Commission meets Thursday.
A campaign for the county to limit the so-called tourist homes, or even ban them, has been building in recent weeks.
The focus right now is on an application for an unhosted vacation rental at 4367 Edinburg Court, located about 1.8 miles northwest of Fairfield. The applicants are Lee Heyman and Amanda Rothstein.
“The proposed project involves use of the existing dwelling as a Vacation House Rental – Unhosted,” the staff report to the commission states. “The residence will be advertised for rent for groups of up to 10 people for 30 days or less as allowed (by county code).
Solano to apply for grant to help Fairfield affordable housing project
FAIRFIELD Solano County supervisors authorized submission of a grant application Tuesday for $5.6 million from the No Place Like Home program.
This is the third round of funding and is in collaboration with EAH Housing and Fairfield for the development of a 67-unit affordable housing project, including 20 units of permanent supportive housing.
The location of the project would be 212 E. Tabor Ave. in Fairfield
“The No Place Like Home program dedicates up to $2 billion in bond proceeds to invest in the development of permanent supportive housing for people in need of mental health services and who are either experiencing homelessness, are chronically homeless, or at risk of chronic homelessness,” the staff report to the board states.
