Green Valley focus of weekend fire safety effort
GREEN VALLEY Michael and Dorene Warchut planned to bring at least 10 truckloads of green waste for the Green Waste Days event Saturday.
It might be nice and green in the valley, but they both are very much aware that living in a wooded area means keeping up with clearing underbrush, removing trees and making a fire-safe space around their home.
Board denies ‘tourist home’ permit in Green Valley; sets moratorium in rural residential areas
FAIRFIELD The Solano County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday denied an application for a short-term vacation rental use permit in the Green Valley Highlands, then set a temporary moratorium on any new permits in rural residential zones.
One of the issues is unhosted versus hosted rentals – an issue that helped Supervisor Erin Hannigan vote to deny the application by Gerald Heyman and Amanda Rothstein at 4376 Edinburg Court.
Hannigan said she would never support an unhosted rental in a residential area.
The board denial came on a 4-1 vote. Supervisor Jim Spering described his vote as a “reluctant no.”

Solano supervisors to address long-term LNU fire recovery
FAIRFIELD Solano County supervisors on Tuesday will consider the 2020 LNU Lightning Complex Fire Recovery Strategic Plan and receive an update on the progress of the recovery.
A staff report to the board states that the purpose of the strategic plan is to provide the county with a blueprint to recover from the devastating effects of the LNU Lightning Complex Fire that occurred in August.

Green Valley Fire Safety Council could be model for others
GREEN VALLEY Thomas Johnston admits to having been a little embarrassed by the condition of his property.
He said the property on Brae Court probably had been neglected for 40 years before he bought it nearly six years ago, but had not improved under his ownership.
Johnston, an inspector for the state Division of Occupational Safety and Health in San Francisco, said he simply did not have the financial resources to hire a service.
Now he describes himself as a “happy owner who took advantage of the (Green Valley Fire Safety Council) chipping program; happy to the extent the program was there.”
