FAIRFIELD Solano County does not appear to be experiencing the level of collateral ills other communities are reporting – such as increases in suicides, domestic violence, child abuse and substance abuses – during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In fact, according to information provided by the Solano County Department of Health and Social Services, suicides are down 23% from Jan. 1 to Dec. 15 compared to the same period in 2019: 43 incidents compared to 60.
Where there have been suicides, 20.43% are among the white population, 10.22% among African-Americans and blacks; 7.5% Hispanic/Latinos, 6.13% Asian and 3.7% who were not identified by race, the county report states. The county reports 43% of the suicides are between 30 and 60 years old, while 26% are young adults and 22% are individuals 60 or older.
