8 BBMP zones get their own commissioners

Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) zones, in the first of a series of administrative changes being rolled out in keeping with the BBMP Act, 2020. The burden of civic administration on the chief commissioner is expected to reduce with the zonal commissioners getting more powers. It’s however not clear when the BBMP will form zonal committees.
Officers who are currently heading different departments in the BBMP have been posted as ex-officio zonal commissioners. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (
BBMP) has withdrawn its recent order that had directed the Technical Vigilance
Cell (
bills. This is a victory for contractors who had opposed the move.
In its letter order dated March 26, the civic body decided to maintain status quo in the method followed for clearing bills by doing away with the second round of inspection.

This year, in the few weeks that cases have started to rise, patients are feeling the shortage of beds already. To address this,

He said that during the first wave, 50 per cent of the beds in private hospitals were reserved for covid patients. Senior IAS officials Gaurav Gupta and Rakesh Singh took charge as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) Chief Commissioner and Administrator respectively here on Thursday.
The State government had issued an order relieving N. Manjunath Prasad as Commissioner. Mr. Singh relieved Mr. Gupta as Administrator of the civic body.
