Protest From Home held at a house in Mangaluru. MANGALURU: Shortage of ICUs and ventilators and alleged fleecing of Covid-19 patients in private hospitals got people of Dakshina Kannada to hold a novel way of dissent – Protest From Home (PFH). Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) gave a call for people to raise their voice from home, opposing overcharging for treatment of Covid patients in private hospitals and against shortage of ICUs and ventilators in hospitals. Within two days after the protest was announced on Saturday, hundreds of people from the coastal district responded to the call by holding PFH and sharing pictures of them holding placards in front of their houses on social media.

The CPI(M) veteran had led the Left Democratic Front (LDF) to an unprecedented consecutive victory in the April 6 assembly polls. Governor Arif Mohammed Khan administered the oath of office to 76-year-old Pinarayi Vijayan in a low-key function at the Central Stadium here, which was held completely in adherence with the COVID protocol.

Vijayan could become the only third Chief Minister in the state to be re-elected and the first to continue in office after completing a full term. The 76-year-old, who joined the Communist Party of India Marxist (CPM) in 1964 was elected as the 12th chief minister of Kerala after LDF came to power in 2016.
