Former California Democrat Rep. Gil Cisneros (D-CA) was nominated by President Joe Biden, Monday for under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness at the Department of Defense. The move comes as yet another setback for House Democrats, who had hoped he would as he had been signaling he might run for his old seat, which he lost in 2020 to a Republican.
In the position of under secretary, Cisneros’s responsibility will be “the principal staff assistant and advisor to the Secretary of Defense for force readiness; force management; health affairs.” He will also be responsible for “National Guard and Reserve component affairs; education and training; and military and civilian personnel requirements and management, including equal opportunity, morale, welfare, recreation, and quality of life matters,” according to the under secretary’s office.

Charles Booker is throwing his hat in the ring once again. Booker announced an official Senate exploration committee Monday, setting up a matchup between the former Kentucky state representative and two-term senator Rand Paul. Whatâs not clear is how the Democratic establishment will respond, and if they will behave differentlyâand more democraticallyâthan the last time Booker tried running.
House Campaign Committees Fight to Outraise Each Other

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) announced Tuesday it outraised the Republican National Campaign Committee (NRCC) overall in the first quarter of 2021.
The DCCC narrowly outraised the NRCC overall in the first quarter of 2021. The DCCC reportedly raised $34.1 million in the first quarter compared to the NRCC who reported their fundraising numbers last Thursday, showing they raised $33.7 million in the same amount of time.
The Democrat’s campaign arm is touting this quarter as the “best-off year Q1″ with more than $10.8 million for online donations.
“American voters know the stakes in this election are clear. With Speaker Pelosi’s leadership, Democrats in Congress just delivered critical economic relief in the American Rescue Plan,” Rep. Dana Balter, who twice won Democratic primary elections for Congress but failed to unseat Rep. John Katko, has decided against making a third bid for the Syracuse-area House seat next year.
Balter, 45, of Syracuse, told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard that she won’t seek public office in 2022, and instead will focus on a new job working for a nonprofit government reform group in New York state.
