JAMMU: Political parties in the Union territory are raising doubts over the government s intent after one of the members of the Delimitation Commission constituted 15 months ago to redraw the boundaries of assembly constituencies of Jammu & Kashmir moved out to take another assignment.
Jammu & Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) on Tuesday said the fate of delimitation in J&K once again hangs in balance as the government is not serious about it.
“With one of the members of the Delimitation Commission, Sushil Chandra, having been elevated as the Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC) and no substitute provided in his place, the Delimitation Commission announced for J&K has once again proved to be hoax,” Harsh Dev Singh, chairman of JKNPP, said on Tuesday.
Srinagar: Except for Drugmalla constituency in Kupwara district and Hajin-A constituency in Bandipora district, results of 278 of the 280 DDC seats in J&K were declared on Wednesday. The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) won the maximum seats at 110, the BJP won the majority of seats in Jammu region at 72, and Independents won 50 seats, 7 of them in Srinagar.
The BJP won three seats in Kashmir region and emerged as the single largest party in the DDCs in J&K with a total of 75 seats.
The PAGD led by National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah won 84 DDC seats in Kashmir and 26 in Jammu region. It bagged a vote share of 23% across all districts.
BJP Leads In 53 Seats Out Of 280, Independents Win 7 In Srinagar
JAMMU: As per inputs reported till 2 pm, BJP is witnessing a promising trend as it leads in 53 seats among the 280 District Development Council (DDC) constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.
The detailed breakup revealed that while BJP was leading in 53 seats, National Conference had an edge in 20 seats, Congress in 13 seats with Jammu Kashmir Apni Party in 4 seats, Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party in 2 seats, Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan on one seat and independents were leading on 14 seats.
Meanwhile, Srinagar District Election Officer Dr. Shahid Choudhary announced the result for 14 DDC seats in Srinagar wherein Independents have won 7 seats, Apni Party emerged victorious at 3 seats while BJP, PDP, National Conference and Jammu & Kashmir People’s Movement won 1 seat each.
