New Delhi [India], January 20 (ANI): Lakshadweep reported its first case of COVID-19 on January 18, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
The person had come to Lakshadweep from Kochi on January 4 and initially, 31 primary contacts of the case were traced and quarantined of which 14 tested positive and were isolated.
As many as 56 contacts of positive cases were traced and quarantined.
A Central multi-disciplinary team has been sent to Lakshadweep. A Central multi-disciplinary team comprising of experts from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry; National Institute of Virology, Pune and Regional Office of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare sent to Lakshadweep, Health Ministry stated in an official release.
The Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry has rushed a multi-disciplinary team to assist the Lakshadweep administration in Covid-19 management after the Union Territory reported its first case of infection.The case was reported on January .

The Union Territory on Saturday joined the rest of the country in vaccinating its healthcare workers from getting infected with COVID-19.
Trained nurses will be vaccinating around 24,000 healthcare workers, including those working in institutes such as the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research and the Vector Control Research Centre in the coming days.
The vaccination campaign was launched in the Union Territory at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Women and Child Hospital (RGGW & CH). A trained nurse administered the first dose of the vaccine to Munusamy, a healthcare worker, in the presence of Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy. Resident Medical Officer Murali got the next shot.

As the fear of COVID remains, the state governments are also hesitating on opening all the public places. The theatres were finally opened to the public, but there is still a restriction on the 100% seat occupancy.
The Tamil Nadu government earlier changed their decision of allowing full occupancy and reversed it to limited seating. Given the festival rush and excitement of audiences over the new releases, the number of shows were increased. The theatres in Tamil Nadu will once again work with alternate seating arrangements.

Aravinth Srinivas, a junior doctor at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry, in the letter said that he and other frontline workers including police officials and sanitary workers are tired.
