NEW YORK - Canadian Cory Johnston s quest for a first-ever Elite Series win continues.
Johnston, of Cavan, Ont., settled for fourth Sunday in the last tournament of the season on the St. Lawrence River. He went into the final day of competition atop the leaderboard, 12 ounces ahead of American Justin Atkins.
Johnston s five-fish limit weighed 19 pounds, six ounces Sunday to give him 88 pounds for the four-day event. Japan s Taku Ito, who stood seventh after competition Saturday, brought in a five-fish limit weighing a whopping 26 pounds â an average of over five pounds per fish â to finish first with 90 pounds and capture the US$100,000 winner s share.

Taku Ito caught a 6-pound smallmouth on each of the final two days en route to winning the St. Lawrence River Bassmaster Elite Series.
By B.A.S.S. Communications Staff Saving the best for last may not have been his intention, but Taku Itos eye-popping 26-pound limit propelled the Japanese angler to a convincing victory at the St. Lawrence River Bassmaster Elite Series with a four-day total of 90 pounds.
Hailing from Chiba, Japan, the second-year Elite was 38th after Day 1 with 17-15, then improved to 11th with a second-round limit of 22-14. Day 3 saw Ito secure his final-round berth by adding 23-03 and improving to 7th.
