Monadnock Ledger-Transcript - Jaffrey and Rindge explore parking solutions for Contoocook Beach

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 5/13/2021 1:46:54 PM The Jaffrey and Rindge Select Boards came together this week to float several ideas to allow Rindge residents access to parking at Contoocook Beach. Last year, the Jaffrey Select Board and Recreation Department began to explore a parking pass for out-of-town residents, after the beach was inundated with out-of-state visitors. In the process, the deed for the parking lot was reviewed, and the board discovered the restrictions on the gift of the land required the parking remain free and for Jaffrey residents only. The board expects to start enforcing that restriction this year. Town Administrator Jon Frederick told the Rindge Select Board it is the intent to start enforcement after Memorial Day weekend, and to have a period of public education and issuing warnings before implementing tickets and fines, and towing for repeat offenders. Jaffrey dump stickers will be used to identify Jaffrey residents. Stickers are provided

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript - Three way race for Jaffrey School Board seat

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript There is a three-way race for the empty Jaffrey School Board seat this March. Bonnie Mitchell, Eva Torontali and Christine Pressman have all filed to vie for the seat left vacant by outgoing board member Laurel McKenzie. Mitchell said while this is her first attempt at a School Board run, her other municipal and state governing experience would be an asset she’d bring to the table. Mitchell is a former member of the Jaffrey Select Board, Supervisor of the checklist, and a three-term member of the state House of Representatives. “It’s an interesting time in our town’s history,” Mitchell said. “Since there’s been so much upheaval, I think it’s a good time to review everything.”

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript - Jaffrey selects Consolidated Communications for proposed fiber project

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 2/24/2021 4:36:13 PM Like neighbors Dublin and Rindge, Jaffrey has selected Consolidated Communications to provide town-wide broadband internet service to every address in town, if voters approve a ten-year $1.2 million bond for the project. During its regular board meeting Tuesday, the Jaffrey Select Board considered proposals from both Consolidated Communications and Comcast to provide fiber internet to underserved residents. The federal definition of broadband internet is 3 Mbps for download speed, and 25 Mbps for upload speed – both must be true to qualify as high speed internet. Towns are allowed by law to enter into bonds to build infrastructure to provide broadband speeds.

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript - Select Board agrees to police raises

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 2/3/2021 5:16:38 PM The Jaffrey Select Board has approved 2.5 percent raises for police for the next two years. During its meeting Tuesday evening, the board approved a three-year collective bargaining contract for the town’s police officers, which includes set pay increases for 2022 and 2023. Police salaries are expected to stay at current levels for 2021, according to Town Manager Jon Frederick, as police already received a 2 percent pay increase at the start of the year. The contract ratified by Selectmen Tuesday guarantees a 2.5 percent increase for the next two years for the force. The union contract includes all non-probationary members of the police force excluding the police chief and lieutenant. Excluding the chief and lieutenant, the department currently has 11 full time and two part time employees.
