Grand Rapids Community College and West Michigan Works! were awarded a $9.8 million U.S. Department of Labor grant to lead a coalition of employers, workforce development organizations, educators and community groups in the One Workforce for West Michigan Manufacturing project.

Landlords, tenants struggle under COVID-19 eviction moratorium
DeKalb – Governor J.B. Pritzker’s extension of an eviction moratorium until this Saturday continues to protect individuals who meet certain criteria. However, the Pritzker administration has proposed no solutions for tenants who are set to eventually be evicted, or for landlords who stand to lose months of income from rent payments.
Once the moratorium is lifted, which has been in place since March 2020, a year’s worth of prevented evictions will all occur in one day, said Jacob Maas, leader of the DeKalb Tenants Association.
Renters who may be facing hardship already due to their place of employment being shuttered from COVID-19 restrictions may now face homelessness as well, while affected landlords are on track to lose nearly a year of unpaid rent.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â West Michigan employers will receive more than $12 million in training funds, according to West Michigan Works.
They say 283 West Michigan employers will be notified that their applications will result in funds ranging between $1,500 and $498,284.

Admitting that, âProgress seems like an awkward term to use for 2020,â Watertown city officials said the municipality has continued to make strides in residential, commercial and industrial development through the end of the pandemic year and looks forward to a fruitful 2021.
On the residential side, they said, the city approved three 12-unit apartment complexes and approved the first final plat of 15 single-family lots since 2011.
The three 12-unit apartment complexes are located at the southwest corner of the intersection of Air Park Drive and Loeb Lane. Audubon Apartments abuts the property to the south of the development.
The 15-lot single-family final plat is located at the former 1225 Perry Way parcel and is 5.67 acres.
