2 teens accused of fatally shooting of 16-year-old in Jackson County headed to trial

JACKSON, MI – Two teenagers are headed to a jury trial for murder after four hours of testimony on Friday.
Aivery Banks, 17, of Kalamazoo, and Anthony Jones III, 17, of Battle Creek, are facing one felony count each of open murder and felony firearms in the Aug. 25, shooting death of Lataveon Cosey, 16, of Blackman Township.
Co-defendants Banks and Jones had a semi-virtual preliminary examination Jan. 29, before Jackson County District Judge Allison Bates. After five witnesses testified, Bates said there was enough evidence for probable cause and bound the case over to Jackson County Circuit Court.

JACKSON, MI – The man allegedly shot a dozen times by a childhood friend in June begged and pleaded with a police officer not to let him die, according to testimony at a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
“He kept saying, ‘Help me. Help me. Don’t let me die in the ambulance,’” said Jackson police Sgt. Peter Postma, one of the first people at the shooting scene.
Blake Curran, 28, was ultimately bound over to Jackson County Circuit Court on one felony charge each of open murder and second offense felony firearms in the case.

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WLOX) - As Jacob Blair Scott was led to his chair, he gave a brief nod to family members gathered in a Jackson County circuit courtroom Friday before settling in to hear a series of motions.
It was Deja Vu for Scott, who was about to face sexual assault charges involving a 14-year-old girl in 2018 before he fled while on bond. The proceedings delayed, after the defense introduced two witnesses who never spoke.

The Jackson County Sheriff s Office believes that an elderly man shot his ailing wife before trying to kill himself. He was found injured, but alive.

MEDFORD, Ore. The Jackson County Sheriff s Office responded on Monday to an apparent attempt at murder-suicide by an elderly man in southwest Medford.
The agency said that deputies responded on Monday to a house in the 2800-block of Judy Way for two gunshot victims. The deputies arrived to find a woman dead from a shotgun wound. She was later identified as 87-year-old Joanne Marcella Wheeler.
